Myron Green, 84, who developed the first refrigeration units for trucks, died Saturday in Minneapolis. In 1938, he founded Thermo King Corp., which became one of the nation's largest refrigeration companies. During World War II, Thermo King developed an engine heating system for airplanes and refrigerators. The company later developed seagoing container refrigeration and air conditioning for buses, automobiles and trains.
Jacob Kaplan, 99, the former grand rabbi of France, died Monday in Paris. He was elected grand rabbi of France in 1955, serving as spiritual leader of the country's 700,000 Jews. Known equally for his openness to dialogue with the Christian churches of France and staunch support of Zionism, Rabbi Kaplan spoke against anti-Jewish measures adopted by the collaborationist Vichy government during World War II.
