Scaggsville store robbed gunman flees with $1,400

An armed man wearing a dark ski mask robbed a Scaggsville convenience store of $1,400 in cash early yesterday morning as a clerk prepared for opening, Howard County police said.

According to police, a man entered the High's in the 7600 block of Murray Hill Road about 5:45 a.m. while the clerk had her back to the front door.

The man showed the woman the butt of a handgun in his jacket pocket and then ordered her to open the store's safe. He took the cash and ran, police said.

The suspect was described as a 6- foot white male wearing blue jeans, tennis shoes, dark work gloves and a dark hooded sweat shirt jacket, police said.
