John Carroll School is seeking a varsity football coach for the 1995 season, after the recent resignation of Gerry Gray.
Gray, who was the Bel Air school's first football coach nearly 30 years ago, returned for a second tenure in 1991, and his last four teams compiled a record of 10-40. Illness forced him off the sideline for the recently completed season, although he attended some games.
He retained the title of head coach, however, and Ray Fino, who assumed the duties, was considered to be in an interim position.
"Over the years, the one thing I always felt strongly about was my association with the men whom I coached with and against in Harford County," Gray said. "I was proud of being a member of that group -- it has a lot of class."
The first John Carroll seniors played in 1968, and Gray coached for another 10 seasons, before resigning in 1978. Upon his return, among the players he coached was his son, Shane.
Applicants for the position may submit resumes to Jerry O'Brien, John Carroll School, 703 Churchville Road, Bel Air 21014. The deadline is Dec. 31.
