Outlook: The Retrievers will try to regroup from Monday's 102-77 trouncing at Maryland against a talented team that features junior C Malik Rose (18 ppg, 14.5 rpg). UMBC is off to its first 0-3 start since becoming a Division I school and is in a stretch of three straight against NCAA tournament teams. Sophomore F Marc Lay (17 ppg) has progressed to lead the offense. Drexel held UMBC to 28 percent shooting, its poorest effort of the season, in an 81-67 victory last season. The Dragons beat Monmouth, 69-53, in their latest outing after playing tough at Ohio State before losing, 81-74. Sophomore F Jeff Myers (12 ppg, 8 rpg) supports Rose.

LOYOLA (2-2)

at TOWSON STATE (2-2)

Outlook: Loyola leads the series, 27-20. However, the Tigers have dominated recently, winning eight of the past 10 despite last season's 90-84 overtime defeat at Reitz Arena. Towson is coming off an 81-78 upset of West Virginia on Monday night, the second straight game G Ralph Blalock (20.3 ppg) has won with a three-point shot. C-F Stevie Thomas (15 ppg, 7.8 rpg) has been a key player, and the Tigers will be buoyed by the return of F Jason Crump, back from a four-game NCAA suspension. The Greyhounds are 2-0 at home and 0-2 on the road, including an 86-51 pasting at Xavier in their last start. Forward B. J. Pendleton (16.8 ppg, 7 rpg) has 1,132 career points, 20th on the school's LTC all-time list. His chief support has come from G Darius Johnson (15.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg) and G Milt Williams (9.5 ppg, 5 rpg, 4.3 apg). Seven of the past 10 meetings have been decided by 10 or fewer points. Towson is risking a 19-game home-court winning streak.

LOYOLA WOMEN (4-0)

at NORTH CAROLINA (5-0)

Outlook: Off to their best start since 1978-79, the Greyhounds face their toughest challenge in the defending national champions. Fourth-ranked North Carolina showcases senior F Charlotte Smith (20.1 ppg, 8.4 rpg), the first woman to dunk in a collegiate game in 10 years. Sophomore G Marion Jones (17.2 ppg) is another big threat. Loyola, fresh from the championship of the Brown PowerBar Tournament, depends on senior F Patty Stoffey (23.8 ppg, 10 rpg) and senior F Camille Joyner (10.3 ppg, 7.8 rpg). Stoffey is 63 points away from the state Division I scoring record set by Maryland's Vicky Bullett.

COPPIN STATE WOMEN (2-2)

at MARYLAND (2-2)

Site: Cole Field House, College Park

Time: 7:30

Outlook: The Terrapins are still smarting from a 95-29 thumping from top-ranked Tennessee on Sunday and are missing highly touted freshman G Kelly Gibson (torn knee ligament) for an indefinite period. They will have to find a way to contain Coppin C Rene Doctor (17.8 ppg, 17.8 rpg. The Eagles have beaten William and Mary and Murray State. Maryland's top remaining players are freshman G Sonia Chase (9.5 ppg, 10.3 rpg) and senior F Kesha Camper (9.5 ppg, 4.8 rpg). The Terps are 2-0 in the series.
