Baltimore Symphony Orchestra music director David Zinman has canceled three appearances this week with the BSO.
According to BSO representatives, the conductor continues to suffer from the high blood pressure and occasional dizziness that led him to cancel concerts and recording sessions in Philadelphia, New York, London and Zurich.
The concerts on Dec. 8, 9 and 10, which will feature soprano Dawn Upshaw in the world premiere of Robert Beaser's "The Heavenly Feast," were to have been Mr. Zinman's final appearances with the BSO before the start of an eight-month sabbatical on Jan. 1.
Mr. Zinman will be replaced by James Paul, the music director of the Baton Rouge Symphony, who conducted the orchestra in March 1994.
The only significant change in the program will be the substitution of Schubert's Symphony No. 5 for Richard Strauss' "Metamorphosen."
