Thelma Finney, 86, who won a legal battle to become the first woman to legally tend bar in Idaho, died Thursday in Coeur d'Alene. She was also a nurse and licensed boat pilot, "but, for a lot of people, Thelma Finney was the bartender," said her daughter, Marlo Faulkner. "She knew where every skeleton in Kootenai County was buried, who buried them and where they bought the shovel. And she never told a soul." The legal challenge to the state law against women tending bar began when Mrs. Finney was arrested in the late 1940s for working at a lodge she owned with her husband.
