At least five people were killed and three others were wounded in half a dozen unrelated shootings scattered around Baltimore yesterday.
The deadliest incident claimed the lives of two 19-year-old men in a house in the 200 block of N. Streeper St. in East Baltimore.
City police spokesman Sam Ringgold said officers were called to the scene by neighbors' reports of gunshots about 5:30 p.m. Both victims, Sean Brown of the 800 block of N. Linwood Ave. and Donnell Solomon of the North Streeper Street address, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Mr. Ringgold said neighbors saw three or four men leaving the house after the shootings.
About two hours later, police were called to a shooting in a house in the 1700 block of Monterey St.in Southwest Baltimore. They found a man dying from gunshot wounds.
The victim, Allen Hasselberger, 43, who had been shot twice, was pronounced dead at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Officer Sabrina Tapp-Harper, a police spokeswoman, said the man appeared to be the victim of a robbery.
She said several witnesses were being questioned at police headquarters.
At 9:42 p.m., police were called to a shooting in a residence in the 400block of E. 25th St. They found Myra Stewart, 33, of the 3000 block of Mathews St. dead of a gunshot wound to the head.
Police arrested a 67-year-old man who lives at the East 25th Street address, but did lodge charges against him.
A teen-ager and a 25-year-old man were wounded about 6:25 p.m. by stray bullets in an exchange of gunfire by two other men at Carey and Lanvale streets in West Baltimore. The cause of the shooting was not known.
Ronald Sampson, 15, of the 1500 block of Kia Court received a graze wound to the eye, Mr. Ringgold said. James Walker, 25, of the 1600 block of Gilmor St. was shot in the index finger and grazed in the chest. Both were listed in serious condition at Shock Trauma.
In another shooting, police said Victor Holmes, 32, of the 3900 block of Norfolk St. in Westport was fired at several times. A slug passed through his leg while he was riding his bicycle in the 2200 block of Garrison Blvd. in Walbrook about 8:30 p.m.
Police said Mr. Holmes made it home on his bicycle and declined medical treatment.
Earlier yesterday, police were trying to identify a man believed to be in his 20s who was found shot to death in the 2200 block of E. Lanvale St.
Police said they received a report of gunshots at 1:57 a.m., and wentto the scene. The dead man had been shot several times. He was not carrying identification. Police knew of no witnesses.
Officials did have an identification yesterday for a man who was fatally shot shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday in the 1800 block of N. Charles St.
Police said Joseph Melvin Wright, 34, of the 2500 block of McHenry St. in Southwest Baltimore, was shot while in his BMW. A semiautomatic handgun was found on the car's front seat.
Witnesses reported seeing another man fire at least a dozen rounds into the car from what appeared to be an assault weapon.
