Saguaro's, a new Southwestern grill, will open soon at 2 W. Pennsylvania Ave. in Towson -- perhaps late this month. The American Cafe didn't make it there, but Saguaro's could do very well because Tex-Mex is so hot (no pun intended). According to David Bromley, one of the owners, the 220-seat restaurant will be more than just Tex-Mex. Besides barbecued ribs and fajitas, look for "off-the-wall items like Southwestern sushi rolls" and cuisine from Santa Monica to New Orleans.
* More hot stuff: Fiesta's Southwestern Grill and Cantina will be opening in mid-January. Featuring "family priced" Tex-Mex meals, with entrees priced from $4 to $12, it replaces Isella's in the Chatham Mall.
* Donna's Restaurant in Mount Vernon is offering a fixed price wine dinner during December. The four-course contemporary Italian meal is paired with five wines for $38 a person. Entrees include duck breast with lentils and cranberries; pork chop stuffed with foccaccia, apples, figs and pine nuts; and salmon grilled with leeks and brussels sprouts in a tarragon tomato cream.
* You can laugh at the name -- When Pigs Fly -- but it deserves better. While many restaurants closed for Thanksgiving, Cumberland's popular ribs and seafood place served a free turkey dinner with all the trimmings to more than 400 needy people this year.
