County police arrested a Baltimore man Wednesday afternoon after the attempted theft of a 13-inch television set from a Caldor store in the Cromwell Field Shopping Center, authorities said.

Two detectives at the store in the 7300 block of Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd. saw a man enter the television section about 6 p.m. He picked up the $220 television set, which was still in its box, and walked out the front door. The detectives stopped him and held him until a Northern District officer arrived and took him into custody.

Chuckie Maurice Donaldson, 21, of the 2300 block of Norfolk St. was charged with theft under $300, police said.

Pa. man robbed in Linthicum

A Martinsburg, Pa., man was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday afternoon as he unloaded suitcases from his car on the parking lot of a Linthicum motel, county police said yesterday.

John Darryl Ayers, 52, was unloading the suitcases shortly before 4 p.m. on the rear lot of the Motel 6 in the 5100 block of Raynor Ave. when two men walked up to him. Both men pulled out small-caliber, blue-steel handguns and forced Mr. Ayers to lie face-down on the pavement while they went through his pockets and took valuables and an undisclosed amount of money.

Northern District officers searched the area but could not find the suspects, police said.
