Unrelated shootings claimed three lives in Baltimore on Monday, with two of the shootings reported just two minutes apart.
By yesterday, police had made an arrest in one case and were seeking a suspect in another.
The slayings brought the number of people killed this year to 286, compared with 324 at the same time last year, when Baltimore had a record number of homicides.
The latest shooting was reported to police at 9:42 p.m. An officer found the body of Donte L. Brown, 18, of the 1600 block of E. Preston St. in an alley in the 1200 block of N. Broadway in East Baltimore.
Police said Mr. Brown, who had been shot several times in the head and shoulders, was pronounced dead on the scene.
Investigators said yesterday that they knew of no suspects or motive in the shooting.
At 9:40 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment in the 500 block of Glen Allen Drive in West Baltimore and found the body of Talita Martin, 23.
Police said Ms. Martin, who lived at the apartment, had been shot once in the head.
Her boyfriend, Randolph Thompson, 25, of the 500 block of Robert St., was arrested after he arrived at the apartment while police were investigating the slaying. He was charged with first-degree murder early yesterday.
The other shooting was reported about 6:20 a.m. Police said Daryl McNeil, 24, of the 4400 block of Pall Mall Road was shot six times -- twice in the head -- in an apartment complex parking lot in the 4900 block of Denmore Ave. He was taken by ambulance to Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In a warrant, police charged William Lee Martin, 41, of the 4900 block of Denmore Ave. with first-degree murder. Investigators say they believe that the shooting was sparked by an argument over a woman. The suspect was being sought yesterday.
