Baltimore Co. police search for missing Carney man, 77

Baltimore County police were searching last night for a 77-year-old man who disappeared after leaving his Carney home yesterday morning to drive to a Holiday Spa in the 2300 block of North Point Blvd. in North Point.

Police said Joseph Bernard Schaffer of the 3000 block of East lTC Ave. left his home at 8:30 a.m. but failed to show up at the Holiday Spa or return home. Family members reported him missing about 3 p.m., said Cpl. Kevin B. Novak, a county police spokesman.

"He never arrived there [the gym] to the best of their knowledge, and he hasn't been seen or heard from since," Corporal Novak said. "Family members said he tends to get confused and disoriented at times."

Mr. Schaffer is described as white, 5 feet 10, 150 pounds, thin build, with light gray hair. He was wearing a light blue cap, dark blue nylon jacket, blue-and-white flannel shirt, light blue jeans and eyeglasses.

He was driving a four-door 1990 maroon Chevrolet Caprice with a tattered American flag on the antenna and Maryland license plate XKP-084. Mr. Schaffer is known to frequent the Halethorpe and Glen Burnie areas, Corporal Novak said.

He said anyone with information should call the Parkville Precinct at 887-5310.
