A 28-year-old Westminster man was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after he was trapped in his car for about 20 minutes as the result of a three-vehicle crash Friday.
Rescue workers used power equipment known as the "jaws of life" to cut off the left door of a Chevrolet Chevette so they could free Clark Morgan Creamer, state police said.
Tfc. Karl Wantz said a 1979 Ford station wagon heading north on Route 97, driven by Vernon C. Keeler, 48, of Keymar struck the
rear of a Toyota pickup truck that had stopped north of Bachman Valley Road to make a left turn. He said the impact pushed the truck into the driver's side of the Chevette, which was southbound on Route 97.
Mr. Creamer's car was knocked off the highway and struck 12 newspaper and mail boxes. Mr. Creamer was in good condition last night, said a trauma center spokeswoman.
Trooper Wantz said the Toyota was driven by Elizabeth Hill, 32, of Westminster. She was treated at Carroll County General Hospital and released Friday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Mr. Keeler didn't request medical treatment, police said.
Rush-hour traffic was backed up for about a mile each way after the crash.
