25 Years Ago (week of Nov. 16-22, 1969):

* The Board of Appeals granted a special permit to allow Howard Research and Development to build Howard County's first hospital in Columbia. The grounds of the new hospital would adjoin the campus of Howard Community College.

* County Executive Omar Jones proposed that the County Council authorize the sale of $6.3 million in school construction bonds. He had originally planned to propose $11.3 million in bonds, but reduced the amount because of an unfavorable borrower's market.

50 Years Ago (Week of Nov. 19-25, 1944):

* The home base of a wild dog pack that had been roaming the Ellicott City area was discovered near Columbia Pike. Nineteen puppies and one mother dog were captured and taken to the Baltimore County Humane Society.

* The County Council of Homemakers Clubs announced that Ellicott City Elementary School won the milkweed contest in county elementary schools, with 66 bags of milkweed collected.
