It was a big night for Baltimore-area players last night in the Maryland Association of Coaches of Soccer 1994 All-State All-Star Games at UMBC Stadium.
The North teams, comprised mainly of players from Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Howard County, scored victories in the annual contests designed to showcase the state's top seniors for college scouts.
The boys won, 2-1, while the girls took their game, 2-0.
The South took a 1-0 lead in the boys game four minutes into the first half when Gheran King (Churchill) scored off a corner kick by Dylon Powell (Roosevelt).
But Calvert Hall striker Deepak Rana then tied the game with an unassisted goal minutes later.
Brian Doherty of Perry Hall scored the game-winner late in the first half, and his teammates held off the South the rest of the way.
In the girls game, the North beat the South, 2-0.
The North squad took the lead with 10:31 to play in the first half when Kristen Riismandel (Wilde Lake) scored off a direct kick by Shara Boonshaft (Centennial).
The North extended its lead less than eight minutes into the second half, when Amber Clutter (South Carroll) scored on a ball mishandled by goalie Jean Thompson (Bowie).
