New officers named for Joppatowne group

Fran Salbeck has been named president of the Joppatowne Civic Association. She will be assisted by Bob Dillon, vice president; Virginia Beaty, secretary; and Beverly Kott, treasurer.

Nick Fiore, Mitsuya Sasajima, Rene Keller and Mel Soles were elected to the board of directors.

Kott to be profiled in Who's Who in World

Beverly Kott of Joppatowne, a financial counselor with Kott & Associates, will have her biography profiled in the 12th edition of Who's Who in the World.

Individuals are listed because of their positions or their achievements of lasting value.

Ms. Kott also is listed in the 18th edition of Who's Who of American Women and the third edition of International Who's Who of Professional and Business Women.

McMahon receives award from association

M. J. McMahon of Street was given the President's Award at the American Lung Association of Maryland's annual awards luncheon.

The award recognized Ms. McMahon for years of service to the association, and cited her leadership and continuing commitment to public health.

Ms. McMahon, chair of the health sciences department at Towson State University, served as the association's president from 1989 to 1991. She has been a member of the association's board of directors since 1984.

Four college faculty included in Who's Who

Four Harford Community College faculty members have been included in the third edition of Who's Who Among America's Teachers, 1994.

Orlando Correa, associate professor of psychology; Emily Jensen, assistant professor of English; Dorothy Miller, professor of English; and Donna Sneed, assistant professor of business studies, are among teachers throughout the country included in the publication.

Teachers are recognized for excellence and are selected for inclusion in the publication by students.

Waters receives student worker award

Rosa Waters, a YMCA child care aide, has been named "Student Worker of the Year" by the Harford County Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities.

Ms. Waters is a 1994 graduate of Harford Community College's Vocational Foundations Training Program, which is offered under contract to the Susquehanna Region Private Industry Council. She graduated with the highest grade point average and was chosen by her classmates to deliver the commencement address.

After graduation, Ms. Waters accepted full-time employment with the YMCA Day Care Service as a day care aide. She also attends classes at Harford Community College to receive an early childhood education certificate. The Susquehanna Region Private Industry Council is a private nonprofit corporation. It uses federal and state funds to conduct job training and related programs intended to alleviate unemployment in Harford and Cecil counties.

Fordyce is recipient of governor's award

Dick Fordyce, Harford Community College associate professor of health and physical education, is the recipient of the Governor's Bronze Award for Worksite Health Promotion.

The award recognizes Mr. Fordyce's accomplishments in improving the health and fitness of HCC employees.

Strzelczyk, Sterner recognized by council

Jackie Strzelczyk, director of admissions, and Nancy Sterner, academic adviser at Harford Community College, were recognized by the Maryland Displaced Homemaker Council for "distinguished efforts in support of displaced homemakers."

Both received certificates of recognition. Ms. Strzelczyk and Ms. Sterner were nominated for the award by Phyllis Atzinger, executive director of Open Doors Career Counseling Center in Bel Air.
