The lawyer wife of a disbarred attorney who pleaded guilty last week to stealing nearly $300,000 from clients in personal injury cases has been indicted on charges of defrauding an insurance company, prosecutors said.
Jane G. Michaelson -- who worked with her husband, Jerome E. Michaelson, and took over his practice in the 1200 block of Mount Royal Ave. upon his disbarment -- is accused of settling a case with an insurance company but failing to tell the company that the client had died four months earlier. She was indicted Monday on charges of insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud and conspiracy to commit theft, prosecutors said. Her arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 12.
Jerome Michaelson pleaded guilty to 10 counts of felony theft -- including one count in the incident in which his wife is charged -- and two related counts during a hearing last week in Baltimore Circuit Court. Prosecutors will seek a 10-year prison term for Michaelson at his sentencing, set for Jan. 4 before Judge Elsbeth L. Bothe.
