A man wearing a ski mask robbed a High's store of $40 Tuesday night after he thrust his hand into his right coat pocket as if he had a gun, police said.
The man entered the store in the 700 block of Church St. about 9:30 p.m., police said. He ordered three employees to get behind the counter, open the cash register and lie on the floor. He then took the money from the register and left. He was last seen running north on Disney Road with two other men, police said.
A police dog tracked the suspect to an alley between Wasena Avenue and Disney Street, where officers found a ski mask and some socks they believe the suspects used as gloves, police said.
The suspect was described as a white male, about 18 to 20 years old, 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a thin build. Police said a witness told them the suspect was bald.
Couple arrested in shoplifting attempt
A man and a woman from Baltimore were charged Monday morning with trying to steal merchandise from the Cromwell Field Shopping Center, police said.
Police went to the McCrory's store around 11:30 a.m. to investigate an attempted shoplifting. A store employee told police a man had tried to distract her while a woman put two radios into a plastic bag. When the woman found out she couldn't leave the store without being noticed, she dropped the bag and ran. The man left soon thereafter, police said.
Later, another officer saw two people who fit the description of the pair who had tried to steal the radios. He had them return to McCrory's, where an employee identified them. The bag contained eight pairs of Jordache driving gloves stolen from a D.E. Jones store next to McCrory's, police said.
Karen Ranton, 35, of the 100 block of W. Mulberry St., was charged with theft under $300 and attempted theft. Wayne Griffin, 42, of the 2600 block of Spellman Road was charged with attempted theft, police said.
