Council drafts plan for repair, demolition of derelict buildings

The Westminster City Council is scheduled to introduce legislation tonight that would allow the city to order owners of derelict buildings to repair or demolish them.

The council will meet at 7 p.m. in City Hall, Emerald Hill Drive.

The ordinance would give city government power to act against houses that have become unfit for human habitation. The public works director would be required to notify owners that if buildings are not repaired within a specified time, demolition orders will be requested.

Also on tonight's agenda:

* A public hearing on a request to move the Little People's Place child development center on Johahn Drive to an adjacent site.

* A proposal to post 25-mph speed limit signs on Webster Street.

POLICE

* Westminster: A resident of Mount Holly Drive reported to citpolice someone spray-painted the rear of her car with gold paint Thursday while it was parked behind the first block of W. Main St. She estimated the damage at $150.

A resident of Willis Street told city police someone shattered the driver's window of her auto while it was parked near her home Monday. She estimated the damage at $150.

FIRE

* Westminster: Westminster engines were dispatched to a tractor fire in the 2200 block of Littlestown Pike at 12:19 p.m. Friday. Units were out for 28 minutes.
