Brown's Dammen closes career with title, Player of Week honors

Senior Mia Dammen (Oakland Mills) finished her soccer career at Brown with a flourish.

Dammen was named Ivy League Player of the Week after scoring the game-tying goal on a penalty kick and assisting on two others in a 3-3 tie against Harvard that clinched Brown's 12th league championship. She led the Ivy League with nine goals, 13 assists and 31 points. Brown was eliminated by Connecticut, 1-0, Saturday in the NCAA regionals.


* Women's soccer at East Carolina had a distinct Baltimore flavor. Junior Stacey Schott (Franklin) led the team with six goals and two assists for 14 points, 18th in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Another junior, Robyn DePasquale (Mercy), had four goals and four assists to make second-team All-CAA and Leigh Biggerman (C. Milton Wright) contributed as a midfielder (one goal, one assist). Therese Merritt (Joppatowne) was redshirted.


* Susan Frank (Wilde Lake) helped Denison clinch the North Coast Athletic Conference championship with a 9-2-1 record by collecting a goal and six assists for eight points.

* Midfielder Matt Nesbitt (Wilde Lake) was selected honorable mention All-Atlantic 10 after a four-goal season.

Field hockey

Senior forward Christine Carroll (Aberdeen), Bridgewater's leading scorer with 31 points, was selected by the College Field Hockey Coaches Association to play in the Division III North-South Senior All-Star Game Saturday in Boston.

* Virginia freshman Peggy Boutilier (Roland Park) was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference all-tournament team.

* Jen O'Neill (Mount Hebron) collaborated with starting goalie Kim Lockbaum on Delaware's 10th shutout, 5-0 over Drexel.


In a five-game win over Lafayette, Carlyn Cangiano (Centennial) had 16 kills and Abby Burk (Towson) added 12 as Delaware won its sixth straight en route to capturing the Blue Hen Invitational Tournament.


* Freshman Jennifer Conner (Severna Park) had a .667 hitting percentage as American suffered its first loss since Sept. 10 (to George Mason), ending its 24-game winning streak.

Sophomore Kirsten Franklin (Glenelg) had five aces in top-seeded Mary Washington's upset loss to Catholic in the Capital Athletic Conference volleyball semifinals. . . . Freshman Nick Hunter (Loyola) was voted Dickinson Runner of the Week after a personal best (29 minutes, 44 seconds) placed him fifth on the team and 51st overall in the Centennial Conference Cross Country Championships. Another freshman, Dave Krantz (Howard), was 52nd. . . . Sophomore golfer Kristin Dollenberg (Dulaney) has shot as low as 76 and finished as high as 17th for James Madison in invitational tournaments. . . . Jen Hershberger (Mercy) scored a goal as American (7-10-1) completed its regular season with a 6-0 win over Howard. . . . At Millersville, sophomore Kia Damon (Western) intends to improve on her 2.4 ppg on the basketball team last season and Tim Sparwasser (Calvert Hall) is wrestling in the 150-pound class.
