Haydn masterwork at Peabody

THE BALTIMORE SUN

The Peabody Opera Theatre and the Peabody Symphony Orchestra will present the Haydn opera "The Perils of Fidelity," at 8:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 3 p.m. Nov. 20 in the Miriam Friedberg Concert Hall.

Although rarely performed, this Haydn opera is considered to be a masterwork. It is set in a mythical country ravaged by a sea monster that can only be placated by the sacrifice of a faithful pair of lovers. Naturally, as monster-feeding time approaches, even the most constant of couples take pains to conceal their love.

Amaranta will be sung by Carole Tracie Luck, and Perrucchetto by Peter Hilliard.

The performances will be in the original Italian with English super-titles. Tickets are $20 ($10 for senior citizens and students with IDs). For information, call (410) 659-8124.
