TNT Logistics Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of an Australian-based multinational corporation with roughly $3.7 billion in annual revenues, plans to relocate its North American headquarters to Linthicum by next month.
The transportation systems firm's move from Tampa, Fla., follows the signing of a lease this week with Mid-Atlantic Realty Trust for 8,300 square feet in the developer's five-story Gateway International II building.
The state's Department of Economic and Employment Development (DEED) will hold a press conference early next week to officially announce the relocation.
"This verifies what we've said all along, that Gateway II has become a destination for significant businesses looking for quality space in the Baltimore/Washington International Airport area," said F. Patrick Hughes, Mid-Atlantic's chief executive, when asked about TNT.
Neither TNT Logistics' Chief Executive Officer Mike Fitzgerald nor DEED officials would comment yesterday on the relocation.
TNT Ltd., the company's parent, is an express freight courier with both railroad and airline services. Additionally, the company holds a 50 percent interest in Ansett Transport Industries Ltd., a major Australian passenger airline.
TNT Logistics sets up transportation systems for other companies.
TNT's lease is valued at roughly $750,000 through 1999. Carey Winston Co. Associate Vice President Gregory E. Masi represented TNT in the transaction, while Casey & Associates Inc. Senior Vice President Richard H. Pettingill negotiated for Mid-Atlantic.
For Mid-Atlantic, the lease will boost the 120,000-square-foot building to 87 percent occupied. The building is part of the firm's 34-acre Gateway International complex.
