Soccer
* Under-11 girls -- The Columbia Dynamo came away with a tie and a loss in two Washington Area Girls Soccer league games.
First, the Dynamo played to a scoreless draw against the McLean (Va.) Miracles. Forward Ashley Pollock, midfielder Ashley Hooper and defender Samantha Test led the Dynamo.
This past weekend, the Dynamo dropped a 5-0 decision to the SYC Blast, despite the efforts of keepers Emily Williams and Susan Bartholomew.
* Under-11 boys -- The Columbia Soccer Club's F-X Columbia team dominated play last week against the Annandale (Va.) Stars en route to a 3-0 win. Columbia held its opponents to three shots.
But the team's momentum didn't last long, as it was handed a 3-2 defeat this past weekend by the Stafford (Va.) Flash.
* Under-16 girls -- With only a first-half goal from Becky Froman, the Columbia Courage had to settle for a 1-1 tie this past weekend against McLean (Va.) United in a Washington Area Girls Soccer league game.
After McLean came back to even the game, the Courage clamped down on defense the rest of the way to preserve the tie.
Ice hockey
The Howard County Youth Hockey Club Pee Wee A team has had a rough beginning to its 1994-95 campaign, losing two hard-fought games.
The team opened its season in the Capital Beltway Hockey League with a 5-0 loss to the Chesapeake Chiefs.
Goalie Jason Milke made 27 saves, helping to keep the Columbia team in contention until the final period. Defenseman Nick Zahrobsky and attackman Matt Scott also played well in the loss.
The Huskies then dropped a 3-2 decision to Easton this past weekend.
Justin Bridle opened the scoring for HCYHC, knocking in a pass from Chris Feeney early in the first period.
Easton quickly tied the game, but the Huskies went back in front later in the first period on a goal by Derek Williams, assisted by Richie Jondo and Philip Down.
But the Eastern Shore team scored twice in the final four minutes to take a 3-2 lead.
Although the Howard defense -- led by Milke (27 saves), Robby Falk and Jeff Dinoto -- held its opponents scoreless in the final two periods, the Huskies couldn't get the tying goal.
Football
