Few recruits expected to sign

Today is the first day for high school seniors to sign letters of intent to play college basketball next season, but there will be just a handful of signings in the area.

Maryland expects to sign Laron Profit, a 6-foot-6 guard from Delaware's Caesar Rodney High, but lost out on two of the other recruits it had been pursuing -- guard Louis Bullock of Laurel Baptist, who will sign with Michigan, and 6-9 power forward Luther Clay of Maine Central, who reportedly has committed to Purdue.

Loyola College has received an oral commitment from Milford Mill's Blanchard Hurd, a 6-7, 210-pound center/forward, who announced that he will sign today. Hurd was a second-team All-Metro basketball selection last year.
