MARYLAND (4-5)

This Saturday: at Virginia, Scott Stadium, Charlottesville, Va., 1 p.m.

Previous game: N.C. State beat the Terps, 47-45, on a 35-yard field goal by Steve Videtich with six seconds left, the eighth lead change in one of the wildest games ever played at Byrd Stadium. Following Scott Milanovich's fifth touchdown pass with 2:19 to go, Maryland was on the verge of its first three-game win streak in eight years. Virginia lost, 28-25, at Duke and dropped eight spots in the AP rankings to No. 21.

Key statistics:The 45 points were the most Maryland has ever scored in a loss. Milanovich's ..865 completion percentage (32-of-37) was the second-best ever in school history and he set the school record for career touchdown passes (43). But N.C. State's offense piled up 560 yards and never punted or turned over the ball. Both teams returned a kickoff for a touchdown in the third quarter. Geroy Simon's 94-yarder was the first for the Terps in 13 years, and Alvis Whitted's 97-yarder was N.C. State's first in 32 years.

Injury update: OG Jade Dubis (sprained left knee and left ankle), CB A.J. Johnson (bruised left shin and sprained right wrist) and WR Jermaine Lewis (sprained left shoulder) are expected to play at Virginia.

NAVY (2-7)

This Saturday: Navy is idle. Next game is Nov. 19 vs. Rice, Navy-Marine Corps Stadium, Annapolis, 1:30 p.m.

Previous game: Navy edged Tulane, 17-15. The victory was the Midshipmen's first this season over a Division I-A team and their first on the road in 17 tries dating to a 1990 victory at Toledo. Rice defeated Southern Methodist, 17-10.

Key statistics: Each team committed five turnovers. Navy linebacker Fernando Harris recovered two fumbles, the second of which occurred at midfield with 35 seconds left, although he fumbled the ball back to the Green Wave at Tulane's 10-yard line. Tulane out-gained the Midshipmen in total offense, 308 yards to 230.

MORGAN STATE (2-7)

This Saturday: At Howard, Howard Stadium, Washington, D.C., 1 p.m.

Previous game: Morgan State lost to Samford, 40-34. Howard lost to South Carolina State, 40-14.

Key statistics: Morgan State put together its best offensive outing of the season with 34 points and 560 total offensive yards. The Bears gained 216 more yards than Samford and had 11 more first downs (30-19). Bears quarterback Michael Moore completed 28 of 44 passes for 417 yards and three touchdowns. Andre Thomas ran for 151 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries for the Bears. Morgan State fumbled five times, losing three.

TOWSON STATE (6-2)

This Saturday: At Southern Connecticut, Jess Dow Field, New Haven, Conn., 1 p.m.

Previous game: Senior fullback John Swigart caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Dan Crowley with 8:27 remaining in the game to give Towson State a 36-31 victory over Kutztown. Southern Connecticut defeated Central Connecticut State, 35-7.

Key statistics: Towson State quarterback Dan Crowley passed for a career-high 449 yards, completing 23 of 45 passes, with three touchdowns. Mark Orlando had 10 catches for 244 yards and one touchdown for the Tigers. The teams combined for 964 yards of total offense and 47 first downs. Towson State was penalized 11 times for 80 yards.

BOWIE STATE (2-7)

This Saturday: West Liberty State, Bulldog Stadium, Bowie, 1 p.m.

Previous game: Bowie State lost to New Haven, 35-6. West Liberty State defeated Fairmont State, 38-19.

Key statistics: Although he threw two interceptions, Bowie State quarterback Darrell Foote broke the school's single-season passing-yardage record, as he passed for 99 yards to give him 1,207 on the year. The Chargers accumulated 410 yards of total offense, including 263 yards passing. New Haven quarterback James Weir was 18-for-25 for 242 yards and two touchdowns.

FROSTBURG STATE (7-1-1)

This Saturday: Methodist, Bobcat Stadium, Frostburg, 1 p.m.

Previous game: Frostburg State, which was ranked second in the NCAA Division III South Region, was upset by Waynesburg, 28-21. Methodist was idle.

Key statistics: The Bobcats tried to mount a last-minute drive, but Waynesburg's Pat Andrews intercepted the ball at the Waynesburg 30-yard line to seal the win with 14 seconds left. Waynesburg running back Mike Martinez ran for 176 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries. Frostburg State quarterback Gilbert Telleria (8-for-17, 139 yards passing) threw two touchdown passes and rushed for 78 yards on 16 carries.

JOHNS HOPKINS (3-6)

This Saturday: Western Maryland, Homewood Field, 1:30 p.m.

Previous game: Johns Hopkins defeated Franklin & Marshall, 16-7. Western Maryland beat Swarthmore, 34-13.

Key statistics: The Blue Jays ended a two-game losing streak despite being penalized 15 times for 126 yards. Johns Hopkins quarterback Mike Bopp, filling in for injured starter Mike Redziniak, completed 21 of 32 for 216 yards and two touchdowns. John Donovan intercepted two passes for the Blue Jays.

SALISBURY STATE (2-6)

This Saturday: At Guilford, McBane Field, Greensboro, N.C., 1 p.m.

Previous game: Salisbury State lost to Catholic, 41-16. Guilford lost to Washington & Lee, 13-7.

Key statistics: Catholic out-gained the Sea Gulls in total offense, 557 yards to 352 and had 34 first downs to Salisbury State's 16. Catholic wide receiver Steve Wilkerson (12 receptions for 146 yards, two touchdowns) set a school record for catches in a season with 83. Cardinals freshman quarterback Kevin Ricca was 24-for-39 for 273 yards, with two touchdown passes and sophomore running back Matt Taylor rushed for 173 yards on 31 carries and scored two touchdowns. Salisbury State quarterback Marc Thomas rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns on six carries and passed for 172 yards.

WESTERN MARYLAND (5-3)

This Saturday: At Johns Hopkins, Homewood Field, 1:30 p.m.

Previous game: Western Maryland defeated Swarthmore, 34-13. Johns Hopkins beat Franklin & Marshall, 16-7.

Key statistics: Green Terror quarterback Brian Van Deusen threw three touchdown passes. Green Terror freshman linebacker Mike Kappes returned a blocked punt for his first career touchdown. Swarthmore outgained the Green Terror in total offense, 324 yards to 307, and controlled the ball for 36:35.
