Look what they've done to argyle! Designers took a closer look at Dad's casual socks and sweaters and took them up a notch. Now the old pattern is showing up in bustiers, evening gowns and shocking shifts.
The pattern originated with the Clan Campbell of Argyll, Scotland, who cut their square tartan on the bias to make stretchier leg coverings to wear when a kilt was just not enough. The resulting diamond pattern eventually found its way to country estates and golf clubs where the bright socks were considered mighty sporting.
Talk about sporting, they should have seen the New York runways.
