Baltimore raids net 20 suspects

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Continuing their assaults on drug-infested neighborhoods, police swept through East Baltimore's Oliver community yesterday afternoon, raiding 13 houses and arresting at least 20 people.

The action capped a two-month undercover operation. During one of the raids yesterday, an officer chased a man across several rooftops before arresting him.

Police said they seized thousands of dollars worth of cocaine and heroin, including two large shopping bags filled with vials of crack cocaine.

"I don't want to get too excited about this," said Maj. Odis L. Sistrunk Jr., commander of the Eastern District. "I want this to be common. There is so much drugs out there. This is good for this community, but compared to what we have districtwide, it is a drop in the bucket."

Police said seven open-air drug markets were shut down.
