A Westminster man was flown to the Raymond M. Curtis Hand Center at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore yesterday several of the fingers on his right hand were mangled in a wood chipper.
The man, who was not identified, was working in a wooded area in the 1500 block of Manchester Road when the accident happened, fire officials said. He was given emergency treatment at the scene by Westminster medics and taken to a field on
Leisters Church Road where a MedEvac helicopter landed.
Officials said the man was conscious and able to walk out of the medic unit before being put into the helicopter.
The incident occurred about 9:30 a.m., officials said.
FIRE
* Sandymount: Reese, Westminster, Gamber and Reisterstown were dispatched to investigate a ruptured low-pressure gas line in front of Vogt's Auto Recyclers in the 2200 block of Old Westminster Pike at 9:25 a.m. yesterday.
The gas line was struck by one of the employees of the company while digging, fire officials said. Firefighters notified BGE and, wearing air masks, were able to place a clamp on the gas line. Units were out for an hour.
* Westminster: Westminster, Reese, Pleasant Valley and Manchester responded to a report of smoke in an apartment on Liberty Street at 9:19 a.m. yesterday. Units were out for 30 minutes.
