Getting the fax on races, entry forms

THE BALTIMORE SUN

For runners in search of just the facts, a new facsimile service called Race Base might be the answer.

It is the brainchild of Howard County Striders member Jim Di- Sciullo, who operates the information-service company Information Forum from his Columbia base.

The service provides -- by fax -- a listing of races in the Baltimore metropolitan area and entry forms for many of those races.

Races this Sunday whose entry forms are available by fax, for example, include the Patapsco Trail Runs at Patapsco State Park, the Run through the Grapevine 8K at Mount Airy, the Tri-Maryland Biathlon Series at Hagerstown, the 10K Burn Run in Virginia and the Tenleytown 10K in Washington.

"Basically, I just saw the need for some kind of immediate, quick information for runners," says DiSciullo.

The following services are available through Information Forum:

* A free list of races whose entry forms are available by fax. Entry forms are available for $1.25 per fax request.

* A list of races whose entry forms are available by fax, as well as other races in the Baltimore-Washington area whose entry forms are not available by fax. This service is available for a $3 monthly charge, which entitles the user to two fax requests per month. The service is also available without the fax service for $2 a month.

DiSciullo, 41, has been marketing his concept since late summer.

"I'm trying to get it to the point I can get advertisers on board and see how close I can get to my main goal of getting the list out there for free," DiSciullo says.

To receive the free fax report, dial (410) 461-5269 from a fax machine, follow the voice instructions, enter password "99" and request document No. 800. For information, call DiSciullo at (410) 730-0047.
