25 Years Ago (week of Oct. 19-25, 1969)
* Officials from General Electric, the Rouse Company, and the state Department of Economic Development lodged a strong protest against a proposed increase in Howard County's building permit fees. The group expressed concern that the increase would give the county an image of "anti-industrialism."
* A drug awareness workshop, sponsored by the Howard County Mental Health Association, was presented for a group of 30 doctors, lawyers and ministers practicing in the Howard County area. The purpose of the workshop was to help make area professionals aware of the variety and scope of illicit drug use in the county.
50 Years Ago (week of Oct. 22-28,1944)
* Howard County's fifth fire company was organized in Lisbon.
