Chesapeake upsets Arundel behind Norris in shootout


Sandra Norris stopped five of nine shots in the shootout as host Chesapeake-AA defeated No. 10 Arundel (10-2-1), 2-1, in a Class 3A-4A East Region girls first-round playoff game yesterday.

The Cougars (8-4-1) won the shootout, 7-4.

Melissa Wagner tied the game for Chesapeake-AA, scoring an )) unassisted goal 28:08 into the second half.

* Meade 3, Western 1: Delyza Diaz scored one goal and added one assist to lead host Meade (2-10-1) past Western (10-2) in a 3A-4A East first-round game.

* Mount Hebron 4, Westminster 3: Julie Kickham scored all four goals to lift visiting Mount Hebron (4-9) past Westminster (3-10) in a 3A-4A West first-round game. Katie Curtian led Westminster with two goals.


* Chesapeake-AA 4, Meade 0: Blake Moore scored two goals to lift Chesapeake (11-2-1) to a victory over visiting Meade (6-7) in a 4A East playoff game.

John Smith made three saves for his fifth shutout for the Cougars.

* Severna Park 4, Northern-Calvert 2: Jim Himes' goal with 7:26 remaining proved to be the game-winner as No. 5 Severna Park (12-1-1) edged Northern-Calvert (7-4-1) in a 4A East first-round game.

* Annapolis Area CS 6, Grace Brethren 0: Jon Cole and Brian Dennstaedt each scored two goals as host Annapolis Area Christian School (11-2-2) shut out Grace Brethren (10-4-1) in the Christian School Athletic Association Tournament final.

4( Dennstaedt was named tournament MVP.
