Cincinnati Reds -- Agreed to terms with P Jeff Brantley on a two-year contract.

Florida Marlins -- Named Rich Gale pitching coach, Jeff Pentland hitting coach and Mike McGowan trainer at Double-A Portland.

Kansas City Royals -- Announced that they will not exercise their $500,000 1995 option on 3B Gary Gaetti (.287, 12 HRs, 57 RBIs). Gaetti, 36, will get a $125,000 buyout.

New York Mets -- Named Fred Hina head trainer.

Oakland Athletics -- Named Gary Jones manager of Triple-A Edmonton. Promoted Pete Richert to pitching coach at Edmonton. Named Dick Scott manager of Double-A Huntsville. Named Bert Bradley pitching coach at Single-A West Michigan. Named Casey Parsons manager at Single-A Modesto. Promoted Rick Rodriguez to pitching coach at Single-A Modesto. St. Louis Cardinals -- Signed P Gary Buckels to a minor-league contract.


Texas Rangers -- Announced that they will not exercise their 1995 options on P Tom Henke (3-6, 3.79 ERA, 15 saves) and SS Manuel Lee (.278, 38 RBIs). The Rangers bought out the contract on Henke, 36, for $1 million rather than exercising a $4 million option. The club bought out the contract on Lee, 29, for $200,000; his option was $1.9 million.


NBA -- Fined Houston Rockets G Vernon Maxwell $3,500 for throwing a flagrant forearm at the Cleveland Cavaliers' Chris Mills on Monday.

Philadelphia 76ers -- Waived G Stephen Bardo.

Portland Trail Blazers -- Signed G Negele Knight to a one-year contract.



Big Ten Conference -- Announced agreements to slot a conference team in the Hall of Fame Bowl, Alamo Bowl and Sun Bowl beginning with the 1995 season.

Cornell -- Promoted Bill Hall, men's restricted earnings lacrosse coach, to men's assistant lacrosse coach. Named Peter Ginnegar men's assistant lacrosse coach and Daniel McDonald men's assistant volunteer lacrosse coach.

North Carolina-Charlotte -- Announced that basketball G Andre Davis has withdrawn from school.

Pittsburgh -- Announced the resignation of Don Ireland, football public address announcer, after school officials apologized for his poking fun at West Virginia during a game Oct. 15. Ireland told the crowd there was a tractor in the parking lot with its lights on bearing the West Virginia license plate "EIEIO." He also said the stadium's smoking ban included corncob pipes.


Philadelphia Eagles -- Extended the contract of LB William Thomas, second on the team in tackles (45), through 1996.


Pittsburgh Steelers -- Signed RB Anthony Daigle to the practice squad.


Utica Blizzard (CHL) -- Activated female G Erin Whitten.
