Do some holiday shopping during bus trip to Lancaster


The Odenton Heritage Society is planning a Christmas shopping bus trip to Lancaster, Pa., Nov. 19. Tickets are $30 and include dinner at Good 'N Plenty, a Pennsylvania Dutch theme restaurant. The bus leaves the Odenton Shopping Center at 7 a.m. and is expected to return at 7 p.m.

The Retired Officers' Wives Club will hold a Husband Appreciation Brunch at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 13 at the Fort Meade Officers Club. For reservations or more information, call Norma Thompson, (410) 987-4868.


The North Arundel Hospital Odenton Medical Center offers free screenings each week to area residents. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tuesdays the center offers free breast-cancer screenings. A female physician performs the examination and offers information on mammography and breast self-examination.

A free blood-pressure screening also is offered from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays. Information on controlling blood pressure is presented to each participant.

The center offers free prostate screenings for men from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursdays. Information about prevention and early detection of prostate cancer also is available.

Appointments are required for all screenings and can be made by calling the Odenton Medical Center at 551-0499.


The Gambrills Athletic Club is sponsoring a dance from 8 p.m. to midnight Nov. 5 at the club hall on McKnew Road in Gambrills. The band will be the Hot Rods, a group that performs '50s and '60s music and a floor show.

In addition to door prizes, the club will hold a dance contest and award a prize for the best '50s costume.

Admission is $17 a person, which includes beer and set-ups. All proceeds benefit the Gambrills Teen Club. For more information, call (410) 923-6997.


The United Methodist Youth Fellowship from Nichols Bethel United Methodist Church will hold a Family Hayride and Bonfire Nov. 11. Bring the whole family and, of course, marshmallows to the church at 6 p.m. or meet at the U.S. Naval Academy Dairy Farm in Gambrills by 6:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per family or $2 per person. Arundel Senior High School is sponsoring an Arundel Holiday Craft Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 10. The Arundel band will sell food in the cafeteria.
