Arundel High takes lead in math competition
Arundel High School has taken the lead after the first round of the annual county High School Math Competition held Oct. 8 at Anne Arundel Community College.
Each school enters a team of up to five students. Students are given six math problems to solve. A school's total is the average of its top three individual scores and its top team score.
Students with perfect scores in the individual phase of competition were Saul Cohen, James Kim and Kevin Wells of Old Mill; Christine Baker of Annapolis High; Corrie Sperry of Meade; and Jen Harden of Severna Park High.
The top three team scores were Arundel High with 11 points; Severna Park with 10.67 points; and Meade with 10.33 points.
The next round of the competition will be Nov. 12.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Students can enter audio essay contest
High school students can enter to win a $20,000 scholarship in the VFW "Voice of Democracy" audio essay program.
Students are required to express "My Vision For America" in a three- to five-minute audio tape. Winning entries will move to district competition and will have a chance to continue to state and national competition.
