LANCASTER, Pa. -- Senior wide receiver Butch Schaffer caught nine passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns and Western Maryland (4-3, 3-2) broke up a late two-point conversion attempt to edge Franklin & Marshall (1-6, 0-4), 21-20, in a Centennial Conference game yesterday.
Schaffer set a school single-season record for receiving yards with 794, breaking Andy Steckel's 1991 mark of 776.
Green Terror quarterback Brian Van Deusen, who was questionable because of a concussion suffered last week, started and finished 24 of 44 for 273 yards and three
touchdowns.
Wesley 49, Salisbury State 47
SALISBURY -- Salisbury State (2-4) scored three touchdowns in the last 3:50 but failed on a two-point conversion in its loss to Wesley (6-1). Marc Thomas threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Burt Cashman to pull the Sea Gulls within two with 24 seconds left.
Running back Byron Pugh tied a Salisbury State single-game record with six touchdowns.
