Maryland's women's soccer team scored two first-half goals within four minutes to beat Indiana, 2-0, yesterday at the George Mason Invitational in Fairfax, Va.
Ten minutes before halftime, Tricia Taliaferro picked up a loose ball and drilled a 20-yard shot into the net. Freshman Michelle Deville scored shortly thereafter after a long pass from Terri Rich.
Isabell Fennell needed to make only one save to shut out Indiana (8-7). The Terps (7-6-2) play Florida International -- which lost, 5-1, to George Mason -- in the second round of the round-robin tournament tomorrow.

* Shepherd 3, Goucher 1: Freshman reserve midfielder Timothy Miller scored twice to help visiting Shepherd (6-6-1) beat Goucher (7-9-1). Senior midfielder Seth Bachman (Columbia) scored Goucher's only goal on a penalty kick with 20:26 left.
* Dundalk CC 4, Howard CC 2: Paul Dziewanowski (Patapsco) and Chris Astirita (Dundalk) scored in the second half, leading visiting Dundalk Community College (6-11) over Howard Community College.
