Moose Lodge donates $700 to recreation department

The Sykesville Moose Lodge is helping the town Department of Recreation and Parks recoup money lost when summer concerts were rained out.

Darrell Shaffer, governor of the lodge, gave the town a $700 check at the council meeting Monday.

"We know you fell short of your goal by $700, and we wanted to make it up for you," said Mr. Shaffer. "The money will help Rec and Parks with their activities."

The donation will help pay for town-sponsored youth activities.

"We want to help the community as much as we can and give kids things to do," said Ralph Henson, treasurer of the lodge. "Now, we have to get back to our bingo night, so we can make more money."

Mr. Henson said lodge members are looking for a site for monthly meetings. They meet in members' homes now and hope to find permanent headquarters.

The Sykesville Moose Lodge sponsors several fund-raising activities, including Monday night bingo at the Freedom Community Center on Route 32.
