A 7-year-old Pumphrey boy was in fair condition last night at Johns Hopkins Hospital Children's Center, after being hit by a van Monday, police said.
Rashad Miles and a group of youngsters left the Lloyd Keaser Community Center shortly after 8 p.m. and were crossing the 5900 block of Belle Grove Ave. when the accident occurred.
The impact carried Rashad several feet before he fell to the street, police said. William Miles, the boy's uncle, told police his nephew did not break any bones.
Robert Thompson, 28, of the 5700 block of Magie St., Brooklyn Park, was driving the southbound 1988 Plymouth that hit young Miles.
Though his van was traveling 39 mph in a 35 mph zone, Mr. Thompson will not face any charges, police said. The boy was not at the corner when he crossed, police said.
Youth is robbed on Charlotte Drive
A 17-year-old Laurel youth was robbed Monday night as he stood in front of a house in the first block of Charlotte Drive, county police said.
The youth was standing with another 17-year-old boy when a 1986 Nissan Maxima station wagon passed them shortly before 11 a.m. The car turned around and passed them a second time. As the second youth went inside the vestibule, a man got out of the car, ran up to the victim, pulled out a handgun and demanded the boy's money. The youth claimed he had no money, so the gunman took his jacket, police said.
The suspect ran back to the car and fired three shots before driving off. Neither youth was harmed, police said.
Youth is charged in attack on officer
A 16-year-old Baltimore youth was charged as an adult Monday morning after he allegedly assaulted an officer and tried take the officer's gun, police said.
The incident began around 7:30 a.m. when two youths took a 1992 Chevrolet that had been idling in front of a house in the 7900 block of Stonehearth Road. Police spotted the car traveling east on Route 32.
The officer followed the car to Route 175 near Route 3, where the suspects ran into the woods. About an hour later, police dogs found the pair walking on a trail near Maple Road and Gambrills Road, police said.
jTC Marcus Stuart Hobdy of the 2600 block of Patapsco Ave. was charged with assault with intent to murder and theft over $300, police said. He also was treated for dog bites at North Arundel Hospital, police said.
A 15-year-old Severn girl who was with Mr. Hobdy was charged as a juvenile with theft over $300. Police released her to her parents.
