Taneytown council to examine plans to spruce up downtown

THE BALTIMORE SUN

The Taneytown City Council will get its first glimpse of what the future downtown could look like when a Columbia urban design consultant presents preliminary recommendations at tonight's council meeting.

Land Design Research International Inc. has been studying revitalization efforts for the city's central core since spring.

The firm was hired to create a strategy for rejuvenating the

downtown.

City Manager John L. Kendall said LDR representatives will present their first progress report to council members at tonight's meeting, which begins at 7:30 p.m.

He said LDR has not yet shared its presentation with him or city officials.

In addition to the LDR presentation, council members are expected to hear a proposal to study the Fringer Road well-water situation.

For months, eight homeowners have complained of problems with their wells, and some have claimed that a new city well may be the cause.

Mr. Kendall said a geologist will propose placing monitoring equipment on some of the wells to determine what has caused muddy, cloudy and sometimes intermittent water.
