A Brooklyn Park woman was struck and killed Wednesday night by a car that she may have accidentally left in gear as she went to use a mailbox, county police said.
Maria Kathleen Adams, 46, of the 500 block of Taney Ave. was dead on arrival at North Arundel Hospital, a spokeswoman there said yesterday morning.
Raymond L. Allen of Baltimore saw the car circling at the corner of Church Street and Patrick Henry Drive around 8 p.m. It struck Ms. Adams twice, the second time dragging her a short distance before Mr. Allen was able to get inside the car and stop it, said police spokesman Officer Randy Bell.
The 1982 Plymouth Reliant was registered to a friend of Ms. Adams', police said.
