Twin brothers, formerly students at Western Maryland College, pleaded guilty yesterday to drug charges stemming from a search of their dormitory room in April.
Amir Ali and Emir Ali, 19, agreed to plead guilty to possession of production equipment for a controlled dangerous substance and conspiracy to distribute marijuana, in exchange for dropping charges of marijuana and paraphernalia possession.
The brothers chose to represent themselves at the trial.
In April, Westminster police confiscated a small amount of marijuana and seeds, a scale for weighing the drug, packaging materials and $345 from the brothers' room in the college's Rouzer Hall.
Assistant State's Attorney Barton F. Walker III said Amir Ali admitted to police during the search that he and his brother were packaging and selling marijuana.
Circuit Court Judge Francis M. Arnold agreed to an investigation before sentencing the young men Dec. 31. Judge Arnold also gave the brothers permission to leave Maryland to continue their college classes.
Emir Ali told the judge he is attending Alabama State University in Montgomery. Amir Ali said he is attending Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia.
