NME close to 2 hospital deals
Three months after settling criminal fraud charges for $380 million, National Medical Enterprises reportedly is close to two takeovers that would make it the nation's No. 2 hospital chain.
The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that NME is close to acquiring HealthTrust Inc., of Nashville, Tenn., and Dallas' American Medical Holdings Inc.
The combined company would have $10 billion in annual revenues, 207 hospitals and 33,937 beds in the U.S. and six other countries.
Only Columbia-HCA Healthcare Corp. would have greater revenue.
Diana Takvam, an National Medical spokeswoman, said the company would not announce any mergers or takeovers until the deals are complete.
