R. Arden Lowndes, a Baltimore native and a retired vice president of the South Carolina National Bank, died Saturday of heart failure at his home in Camden, S.C. He was 85.
He was a graduate of the Gilman School and Yale University. He had been captain of the Gilman football team and had played soccer at Gilman and Yale.
He lived in Cumberland and worked for the Second National Bank there before World War II. He moved to Camden after serving in the Navy during the war.
Graveside services were set for 11 a.m. today at the Quaker Cemetery in Camden.
His wife, the former Katherine Watts, died in 1986. He is survived by a brother, Christopher Lowndes of Wilmington, Del.; and several nieces and nephews.
