Druzgala reaches Mid-Amateur

Adrian Druzgala of Ellicott City and Hobbit's Glen Golf Club followed an opening 76 at Wayzata Country Club with a par-matching 72 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in suburban Minneapolis, and qualified for the match-play portion of the U.S. Mid-Amateur championship, starting today.

Robert Vallis, of Bermuda, who qualified at Old South CC in Lothian, and whose daughter attends Oldfields School, also made it with 71-77148.

There was a playoff at 149 among 21 players for three places, and among those halted by darkness was Barry McCarty of Alexandria, Va., at 72-77149.

U.S. Mid-Amateur qualifying

Qualifiers included: Adrian Druzgala, Ellicott City, 76-72148; Robert Vallis, Bermuda, 71-77148. z-Barry McCarty, Alexandria, Va., 72-77149. zwill conclude playing off for final qualifying places this morning.

Nonqualifiers included: Stu Strang, Silver Spring, 74-78152; Tom Winegardner, Lothian, 77-77154; Steve Hall, Annapolis, 75-79154; Eddie Walker, Alexandria, Va., 82-78160; Don Bachtell, Hagerstown, 91-79170.
