It's only fitting that the biggest celebration in Annapolis' history be ushered in by the biggest parade the capital city has ever seen.

That parade, to kick off Annapolis 300, A Capital Celebration, will start at 10 a.m. tomorrow with more than 100 units assembled on Amos Garrett Boulevard to begin the 1.6-mile march down West Street, around Church Circle, down Main Street, and up King George Street to College Avenue.

Navy and Marine units will be joined by Shriners, local high school bands, and guest Linda Adamson of Annapolis who recently was named Maryland's Teacher of the Year. Benjamin Franklin, George and Martha Washington and William Paca also are rumored to be joining the procession.

"History is alive and well in Annapolis," says Linnell Bowen, executive director of Annapolis 300, a 300th birthday party for the capital.

Plans also have been announced for the Colonial Fair that will take place in Annapolis on from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 24 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 25. The city's historic past will be celebrated with music, food, crafts, and street entertainment typical of the Colonial period.

There will be no admission charge for the Colonial Fair's activities. Visitors may park at the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium and ride the free shuttle bus to all events.

Also on the agenda for that weekend is the Kunta Kinte Heritage festival, which will take place on the grounds of St. John's College from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 24 and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 25.

The festival will include crafts displays, an education tent for children, demonstrations of weaving, drumming and storytelling, and entertainment by such groups as T&T; Steel Band and Moon August. Admission to the festival is $5 for adults and $3 for children 4 to 12.
