Someone used a sledgehammer to smash open the front door of Corwell's food market in Severna Park Tuesday morning and make off with several cartons of cigarettes, county police said.
The theft occurred around 3 a.m. at the store in the 100 block of Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd. Eastern District Officer Martin Freeman, who answered the call, found the front door smashed open and several packs of cigarettes on the steps. The sledgehammer was left inside the store, police said.
The store's owner, Gregory Corwell, 46, told police that several varieties of cigarettes were taken. He could not give Officer Freeman an estimate of how much the cigarettes were worth, police said.
