2 kilos of cocaine seized in routine traffic stop on I-95

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A routine traffic stop near Havre de Grace Tuesday led to three arrests and the seizure of more than 2 kilograms of cocaine powder worth an estimated $210,500, a 1991 Acura Integra and $44,500, authorities said yesterday.

The traffic stop in Harford County prompted troopers to arrest a New Jersey motorist and led to two arrests in Baltimore County, said Cpl. John Wilhelm.

Miguel Eduardo Velez, 41, of Jersey City, N.J., was stopped for speeding south on Interstate 95 about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said. Officers searched his Acura and found 4.7 pounds of cocaine. He was arrested on charges of possession, possession with intent to distribute and smuggling cocaine.

Police arrested Ralph Quahn Purnell, 21, and Leroy Durham Jr., 21, both of Baltimore, after a drug sale connected to the cocaine seized from the Acura. Both were charged with cocaine possession and possession with intent to distribute.
