25 Years Ago (Week of Aug. 31-Sept. 6, 1969)

* Four adults and one juvenile were arrested on drug charges after a performance by Blood, Sweat and Tears at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia.

* It was announced that Howard County food merchants who wished to participate in the county's nascent federal food stamp program should attend a briefing at the Howard County Office Building. 50 Years Ago (Week of Sept. 3-9, 1944):

* A volunteer fire company for West Friendship was organized at a meeting presided over by E. Reed Bossom, member of the Ellicott City Fire Department. Charles H. Thompson was elected captain. The West Friendship Company had purchased a truck chassis which they planned to convert to carry a pumper, ladder and hose.
