It was a busy day for politicians: Labor Secretary Robert Reich met with acting commissioner Bud Selig in Milwaukee and President Clinton urged both sides to settle their differences during a speech in Maine. It was the first time no baseball was played on Labor Day since the holiday was established in 1894.

Games lost

Thirteen games were canceled yesterday. The total number missed is 324. Only 345 games remain.

* Hickory at Hagerstown, 7 p.m.
