News of the day
Lawyers for players and owners planned no talks during the Labor Day weekend, the first without major-league baseball since the holiday began in 1894. Because the Jewish New Year begins Monday night, no talks are expected until Wednesday at the earliest.
Games lost
Fifteen games were canceled yesterday. The total number missed is 284. Only 385 games remain on the schedule.
