Man, 53, injured as trucks collide in Westminster

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A man was injured when his pickup truck was struck by a truck carrying logs at a Westminster intersection early Friday.

Paul Porter Combs, 53, of the 600 block of Leister's Church Road in Westminster was released from Carroll County General Hospital after treatment.

Police said he was driving a 1992 Ford F150 pickup truck from Gorsuch Road onto Route 140 at 5:41 a.m. Friday.

They said Gerard J. Butler, 62, of Mechanicsville in St. Mary's County told them he was driving a 1978 GMC 6500 truck west on Route 140 and saw the traffic light turn red.

Mr. Butler told Trooper W. R. Herman Jr. that he tried to stop, but the brakes failed and he hit the pickup.

His truck overturned across several lanes, closing the road for almost three hours, police said.

Mr. Butler, who was not injured, received two citations.
